WELCOME TO
SCYTHE COMMUNITY
We’re bringing the worldwide scythe community together. Where we can hear from — and learn from — each other.
Whether you’re new to using a scythe and want to know more about this incredible hand tool… or whether you’re already an experienced mower and would like to hear from other accomplished scythe users… this podcast is where that happens.
We'll also discuss how to restore and maintain meadows for wildlife habitat, and how the scythe is an ideal tool for that purpose.
Please join us as we interview some of the leading figures in the scythe community.
Happy Mowing!
ABOUT US
I’m Steve Smith, the host of the Scythe Community Podcast. I started this podcast because I wanted to get to know other scythe mowers and share their stories and insights with the rest of the community across the globe.
I live on a 100-acre (40 ha) homestead in northern New England. If there’s one thing we know how to grow here, it’s grass - and lots of it! After years of using tractor-mounted rotary mowers and weed whackers, picking up a scythe for the first time was a revelation.
I couldn’t believe how easy it was to use and how efficiently it sliced through grass and weeds. It was quiet and clean. I could hear birds and insects as I mowed. There was a satisfying, almost Zen-like rhythm to the motion. And it turned out to be great low-impact exercise, too. Before I knew it, I became hooked on scything. I know plenty of others are, too. Let’s hear from them!
